State Senator Patricia Van Pelt issued the following statement on the Illinois Senate’s 40-19 vote to expand Medicaid coverage to more than 300,000 people:

“In the 5th District, there are more than 18,000 people newly eligible for health insurance thanks to this expansion. This is a large population that has been left out of the health care system, and I am proud that we’ve been able to help the Illinois citizens who are most in need.”
